A mechanical engineer who translates
I am Jo Fernwood. I trained as a mechanical engineer, and I translate technical documentation from German into English for machine builders.
Why an engineer
A manual describes a machine. To translate it well, you need to understand what the machine does and how its parts work together. My engineering training means I read a German maintenance step the way the technician who has to carry it out reads it.
For you, the aim is simple: fewer review rounds for your own engineers, because the English text already says what the German text means.
One kind of document
I translate only machine documentation: operating manuals, maintenance instructions, specifications and safety notes. I do not take on marketing copy, contracts or general texts.
How I work with you
- I work from your terminology list, or we build one together on the first job.
- I keep that list and use it on every later job, so your parts keep their names.
- I price per word and agree a fixed price with you before I start.
- The work happens online, by email. There is no office to visit.
